Pizza & Bistro
33 years in the community
On April Fool's Day, 2001, with no prior experience, we decided to open a restaurant.
We first moved to Julian in the late 1980s to raise our children in a rural environment and escape the confines of living in the Los Angeles area. With its rolling hills, fresh air, and strong sense of community, Julian provided the quality of life we desired and was the perfect place for our family - Harry and Sabine and the then six-year old twins, Hanni and Harry Jr.
After more than a decade of our family growing up in the community, we wanted to develop a place in Wynola where family and friends could comfortably gather over a meal. We purchased a neglected and rundown commercial center, then occupied by a beauty salon and a coffee shop, and went to work lovingly transforming it into a restaurant where we knew we could proudly host our family and neighbors, friends and strangers.
If you look throughout the space today, you'll see artistic contributions from renowned local artist James Hubbell (like our bar top, patio and the oven’s mosaic) and our top of the line wood-fired oven manufactured by Wood Stone. We use locally-sourced white oak, which serves as the perfect fuel to fire your pizza at an average temperature of 550 degrees. And finally, we choose only the finest ingredients to provide you with a delicious meal when you sit down at our tables. This extends to our bar, the Red Barn, which serves a variety of draft beer, cider and signature cocktails. We love to source many of our drinks from local breweries, cideries and distilleries.
Come join us for a drink and some wood-fired pizza, and experience the community we’ve enjoyed for more than 33 years. We look forward to your visit!
